FLORIDA HERITAGE BOOK FESTIVAL * FRI & SAT
Get literary at this celebration of the authors and books that chronicle the ethnic, social, and historical heritage of the Sunshine State. The festival will feature a wide array of events and activities including workshops, readings, and book signings by popular authors. On Friday, writer’s workshops take place at the Casa Monica Hotel in historic St. Augustine, then the Literary Legends Awards Banquet takes place at the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village from 6:30 to 10 p.m., where Carl Hiaasen, one Florida’s most entertaining authors, will be awarded the 2010 recipient of the Literary Legends Award. Banquet tickets are $75. On Saturday, Festival activities began at 9 a.m. at the Flagler College Auditorium where Carl Hiassen will deliver the keynote address. Next, the festival moves to the Ringhaver Student Center at Flagler College where panel discussions will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be special Children’s Programs from 10:30 a.m – 3:30 p.m. All Saturday sessions are free and open to the public. CAT IN THE HAT IN ST. AUGUSTINE * FRI & SAT

Celebrate the artistic legacy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, at a special exhibition at Loves’ City Gate Gallery, 1 St. George Street in St. Augustine. “The Art of Dr. Seuss” focuses on his private collection of paintings and sculptures created throughout his nearly 70 years of artistic innovation. The exhibit includes bronze sculptures of some of his favorite characters. This limited engagement will be open on Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call 904.827.9006.


SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM DAY * SATURDAY
Take your family to a museum during this nationwide event, Smithsonian Magazine’s Annual Museum Day. Florida’s Historic Coast participating museums include The Colonial Spanish Quarter, located at 29 St. George Street in St. Augustine, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Government House Museum, Cathedral Place, St. Augustine; The Florida Agricultural Museum, located at 7900 Old Kings Road in Palm Coast, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: and the World Golf Hall of Fame, located at One World Golf Place, just off I-95 at Exit 323 in St. Augustine, open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to these museums is free for the day with a Smithsonian Museum Day ticket. ST. AUGUSTINE GARRISON AT FORT MOSE * SATURDAY

Experience living history demonstrations conducted by authentic colonial Spanish re-enactors. The demonstration takes place at 11 a.m. at Fort Mose, located 15 Fort Mose Trail in St. Augustine. UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT * SATURDAY

A favorite end-of-the-month event, Uptown Saturday Night takes place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Uptown San Marco Shopping District, St. Augustine. Galleries, antique stores and unique shops between Ripley’s Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios remain open during this special time. Meet the artists, book signings, live music, refreshments and other events contribute to the party-like atmosphere. The Mission Nombre de Diosprovides FREE PARKING for Uptown Saturday Night.
