Music Masters Lecture and Performance – EMMA and Flagler College host a Music Masters lecture from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Flagler Room at Flagler College with Nick Curry, Cello with the Trio Florida. The program will include Dvorak’s Dumky Trio as well as a piano Trio by pianist Gary Smart who will talk about how he composed this work and his inspirations for writing the piece. Discover First America Program – “Secrets of the Spanish Colonial Archives” marks the official debut of the Catholic Diocese digital archives developed by Professor Michael Francis of the University of South Florida in collaboration with Vanderbilt University. The program also provides a sneak peek at the foods and wines available at Colonial Quarter’s Spanish Mercado along with demonstrations of Spanish cuisine. 9th Annual Florida Literary Arts “Other Words” Conference – This year’s conference focuses on “Writing Florida: The First 500 Years”. The weekend features panels, readings, workshops and an independent book fair, all focused around the unique literary landscape of historic and contemporary Florida. All nightly conference readings start at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. The readings include poets, novelists, and memoirists, Mark Powell, Gianna Rosso, D. Filmmaker Josh Gibson at the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum – Josh Gibson, Lecturing Fellow at the Duke University Program in the Arts of the Moving Image, discusses his three most recent films, “Kudzu Vine”, “Light Plate” and “Nile Perch” at 7 p.m. at the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum. Veterans Day Weekend at Castillo de San Marcos – In honor of those who have served the U.S. military, the National Parks Service is offering free admission to the Castillo de San Marcos for the weekend. Built by the Spanish military between 1672 and 1695, the Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fortification in the U.S. On Friday and Saturday, visitors can experience living history during Spanish Military cannon firings from 8:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. The Castillo de San Marcosoverlooks Matanzas Bay. 1 S. Veterans Day/Month at the World Golf Hall of Fame – This Saturday through Monday,   Veterans and their dependents receive free admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Through the rest of November, all active duty military personnel and their dependents will receive free admission. There will be special scavenger hunts and exhibits highlighting golf’s relationship with the military. Veterans Day Ceremony at Francis Field – The Veterans Day Ceremony at St. Augustine’s Francis Field is hosted by the Veterans Council of St. Johns County and the Florida National Guard. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.and there will be two minutes of firing at 10:59 a.m. to simulate the constant barrage that ceased on 11/11/1918. Veterans Day Memorial at St. Augustine Beach – The City of St. Augustine Beach will host an observance to honor our veterans from 3 – 5 p.m. at Lakeside Park Veterans’ Memorial (behind the police station). The ceremony will be led by City of St. Augustine Beach Vice-Mayor Rich O’Brien, and will include an honor guard, bagpipers, Veterans groups and special guest speakers.
