First Friday Art Walk

The latest exhibits, music, entertainment and refreshments at more than 20 St. Augustine art galleries. Old Town Trolleys offer free round-trips to the heart of the art district from the San Sebastian Winery, 157 King Street – or go on your own self-guided art walk. This month’s highlights include – meet photographer Lowell Beyer and see his impressive “Slice of Time” exhibit at 233 West King; sample the local Native American “Black Drink” and view the exhibit of photos, drawings and artifacts representing local tribes at the Crisp-Ellert Museum, 48 Sevilla Street; see an showcase of wedding images from 22 artists ant renew your wedding vows at 7 p.m. at Amiro Art & Found, 9C Aviles Street; see artist Tiffany Beasi demonstrate how she creates colorful surfers, dogs and more at High Tide Gallery, 51 Cordova Street. . 447th Menendez Founder’s Day Events

A full weekend of re-enactments and events commemorating the 1565 founding of St. Augustine by Spanish explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles on the original colony site at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, the birthplace of St. Augustine and Colonial European America. The Fountain of Youth is located at 11 Magnolia Drive in St. Augustine. www.fountainofyouthflorida.com

Commemorating The 447th Anniversary of the Founding Of St. Augustine

Dozens of authentic re-enactors portray the Sept. 8, 1565 founding of St. Augustine by Spanish forces under the command of Admiral don Pedro Menendez de Aviles.  Ceremonies and presentations are followed by a special mass at the Mission Nombre De Dios outdoor altar located at 27 Ocean Avenue in St. Augustine. The commemoration begins at 10 a.m. Admission is free.www.missionandshrine.org  

A Taste of Spain

From 6-8 p.m., The Tasting Room and Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth (11 Magnolia Avenue) celebrate the 1565 founding of St. Augustine with a special Taste of Spain event featuring paella, charcuterie, cheeses, Spanish wines and more. The Fountain of Youth grounds feature the location of the original Spanish settlement of St. Augustine established on this date 447 years ago.Admission is $30 per person and reservations may be made by call 904.599.2113.

GTM Research Reserve 2nd Saturday Trail Hike

A GTM Research Reserve staff and/or volunteer led 1.5 mile walk that the entire family will enjoy.
Meet at the Trailhead Pavilion at 8:30 a.m. Wear comfortable closed toe shoes. There is a $3 per vehicle parking fee. GTM Research Reserve Environmental Education Center, 505 Guana River Rd., Ponte Vedra Beach. 904-823-4500

Anastasia State Park Bird Walk

See the fabulous birds found on Anastasia Island on this special ranger-led walk. . The tour is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and is free with paid park admission. Suggested items to bring are binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, camera, drinking water, bug spray, sunscreen, and a field guide. Anastasia State Park is located at 1340 A A1A in St. Augustine. 904-461-2033
