Hand, Voice and Vision Exhibition – Artists’ books by 36 artists published over 30 years by the Women’s Studio Workshop are featured at the new exhibit at The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College. The exhibit, open through October 18, is a comprehensive retrospective featuring some of the most influential book artists in America. Author Larry Baker at Flagler College – St. Augustine resident and award-winning author Larry Baker discusses his latest book, “The Education of Nancy Adams.” His presentation is part of Flagler College’s Writers-in-Residence program. The author of four novels, Baker is best known for his “Flamingo Rising” that was adapted as a Hallmark TV movie. First Friday Art Walk  – From 5 – 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month, the Art Galleries of St. Augustine feature new exhibits, refreshments and live music at more than 20 galleries. The event is held rain or shine inside the member galleries and is a free, self-guided walking tour (tour maps available at participating galleries). 5th Annual Fiesta De Aviles – Celebrate St. Augustine’s Old Town Spanish heritage and art on Aviles Street — the oldest street in the nation. The event kicks off on Friday evening with a special First Friday Art Walk featuring Aviles Street artists. The Fiesta features live music, costumes, art exhibits and a special running of the “bulls” along Aviles Street on Saturday. The next day is Sangria Sunday featuring a sangria competition with the public voting for their favorites. Activities are from 4 – 10 p.m. Admission is free. 13th Annual Tactile Art Show & Thread to the Past: 1855 St. Augustine Bayfront Quilt – First Friday Art Walk grand opening reception for this popular show at the St. Augustine Art Association features “touchable” art created in partnership with the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. Exhibit runs through November 2. Plus, The Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild rolls out a panoramic interpret
ation of St. Augustine’s 19th century harbor. This collaborative quilt celebrates St. Augustine’s 450-year old artisan traditions. The free gallery reception is 5 – 9 p.m. on the 3rd. Undisclosed: Photographs from the Hidden Lightner Hidden Exhibition – For the past two years, photographer Theresa Segal has explored the historic Lightner Museum’s restricted fourth floor: 44 small rooms that were the servants quarters of the Alcazar Hotel, but now make up “the best attic in the world,” says Segal. This new exhibition, which runs through January 2, features a selection of 20 of her photographs that chronicle the museum’s hidden, stored collections.   Regular museum admission is $10 adults; $6 for active duty military; $5 college student and youth ages 12-18; under 12 are free. First Saturday Living History Day at Ft Matanzas – From 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., authentically clad reenactors demonstrate Spanish cannons at this fortress that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine. Admission is free including the ferry ride to and from Rattlesnake Island. 5K Pink Up the Pace 5K Walk/Run – Pink Up the Pace raises money to assist local uninsured and underinsured residents in the early detection of breast cancer and to increase public awareness of teh importance of early detection. The St. Augustine 5K Walk/Run and the age 14 and under 5K Walk/Run start at 8 a.m. from Francis Field located behind the Downtown Historic Parking Facility. Awards presented to the top three finishers in nearly 20 age categories, plus awards for first place male and female. First Saturdays GTM Research Reserve Guided Cultural Hike – The first Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. features a Guided Cultural Hike that focuses on the Guana Peninsula’s 5,000 years of human history This 1.5 mile guided walking tour departs from the Trailhead Pavilion located just west of the Guana Dam. World Golf Village Golf Festival – Celebrate everything that makes the game of golf great at this inaugural event at World Golf Village. This free event is from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and includes free admission to the World Golf Hall of Fame, free golf movies (Caddyshack, Happy Gilmore and Tin Cup) at the IMAX Theatre and opportunities to meet Hall of Fame members Gene Littler and Doug Ford. Throughout the day, a Closest to the Pin contest with prizes takes place at the Hall of Fame Challenge Hole. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., guests can play Wii Golf on the Museum’s big screen and kids can enjoy activities based on the Science of Golf. The free Demo Day at the Slammer & Squire begins at 10 a.m. and includes representatives from PING, Nike, Titleist, Callaway, Oakley and TaylorMade. From noon to 1 p.m., the Grand Champions will conduct an interactive golf clinic at the driving range followed from 2 – 5 p.m. with a free golf experience at the Slammer & Squire with advanced tee boxes and expanded (8-inch wide) golf holes. (Tee times are free, but space is limited and must be reserved in advance.) The PGA Tour Academy will be onsite with a series of free, unique golf challenges. Datil Pepper Festival and Cook Off with Home & Garden Show – Annual celebration of the spicy little Datil Pepper! On Saturday, local restaurants participate in a cook off of recipes using the datil pepper. Judging 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.on Sunday. Vote for your favorite pepper delight. Tickets are $1 each. Sykes and Cooper Farms Corn Maze – This award-winning nine-acre maze is sure to get your family pumped up for fall — there’s even a Spookley the Square Pumpkin maze for the kids. Located on SR 207 in Elkton, Sykes-Cooper Farm features a nine-acre corn maze, hayrides, a playground, and farm animals to see and meet. Through October 26, hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Discover the Birds at Anastasia State Park – Led by an Anastasia State Park volunteer, this fun and informative walk is open to participants of all birding levels. From 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., observe a diverse variety of shore birds, marsh birds, and hammock birds by walking the beach, boardwalks, nature trails, and other areas. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars, water, comfortable walking shoes, and a field guide if you have one. Meet at the Island Beach Shop & Grill Pavilion. Widespread Panic Concert – Southern Rock jam band Widespread Panic performs at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. Featuring a loose, rootsy brand of Southern rock infused with jazz and blues textures, the band has sold more than three million records and established grassroots following.
