Edna Buchanan, who will receive the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Heritage Book Festival this September, will be staying at the St. Francis Inn! We are honored to be the hosts for this Pulitzer Prize-winning author and look forward to extending our hospitality to her.
Ms. Buchanan’s writing career spans 40 years and includes newspapers, magazines, fiction, nonfiction, and short stories.
She joined the Miami Herald in 1970 and was the first woman in Florida assigned full-time to the police beat. Her awards include:
The Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade Award
The Paul Hansell Award for Distinguished Achievement in Florida Journalism
The Florida Bar Association Media Award
The American Bar Association Gavel Award
The David Brinkley Award from Barry University
The George Polk Award for Career Achievement in Journalism
In 1986 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General News Reporting “for her versatile and consistently excellent police beat reporting.”
Edna has also written nine mystery novels featuring police reporter Britt Montero. Her books have been published in England, Japan, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Poland, and other countries.
