Nights of Lights – Selected by National Geographic Traveler in 2011 and 2012 as one of the ten best holiday lighting displays in the world, St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights feature millions of tiny white lights that create a magical atmosphere in the Nation’s oldest city through February 2. Tracing its origins to the Spanish tradition of displaying a white candle in the window during the Christmas holidays, the spectacular lighting reflects the city’s 449-year history and illuminates the beautiful setting for lasting holiday memories. www.NightsofLights.com

Historic Spanish Ships in St. Augustine – Full-sized replicas of 16th century Spanish ships are open for tours at the St. Augustine Municipal Marina.  The Nao Victoria is a replica of the first ship to sail around the world.  In 1522, it was the only member of Ferdinand Magellan’s five-ship fleet to complete the first circumnavigation of the globe.  El Galeón, the larger of the two ships is an exact replica of the famous galleons that played such an important role in the creation and maintenance of the Spanish Empire.  It is similar to the galleon that brought Pedro Menendez to Florida where he founded St. Augustine in 1565.   The Nao Victoria will be in port through February 8.  Through July 15, El Galeón will be docked at the marina. The ships are available for tours beginning at 10 a.m. daily.  Admission to the Nao Victoria is $10 for adults; $5 for youth.  “Little Picture Show” Exhibit – Through January 31, Lost Art Gallery presents an exhibition of art from classical to contemporary, featuring small and affordable works in a variety of mediums including oil on canvas, oil on copper, etchings and watercolors by European and regional artists.  210 St. George St., St. Augustine. 904-827-9800 www.lostartgallery.com

Portrait & Figure Show – Through February 2, the St. Augustine Art Association hosts a juried exhibition of expressions of the human face and form lending personality to a variety of styles and media. Sunset/Moonrise at St. Augustine Lighthouse – Enjoy the sunset and moonrise from the most unique perspective in all of St. Augustine – the top of the Lighthouse! The C.B. Smith Show – Direct from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the Smith Family has been entertaining families for years with their amazing variety show steeped in Southern culture and music.  This award-winning show, featuring the Man of a Thousand Voices, comes to St. Augustine on select dates. Continuity and Change in Southern Religion – Dr. Charles Reagan Wilson, Kelly Gene Cook, Chair of History and Professor of Southern Studies, University of Mississippi, Oxford, presents “Continuity and Change in Southern Religion”  at 7 p.m. in the Flagler Room at Ponce Hall. The lecture is part of the speaker series Race and the American South: St. Augustine in Context, presented by the Flagler College Ideas and Images program marking the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act. St. Augustine Film Festival – The 4th Annual Saint Augustine Film Festival features more than 20 films from around the world including France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Kenya, Laos, Israel, Belgium, Paraguay Puerto Rico and USA.  Films will be shown at Lewis Auditorium, Gamache-Koger Theatre and Epic Theatres.  The Thursday Opening Night Party takes place at The Lightner Museum.  Friday evening features a Lifetime Achievement Award to actor Keir Dullea (DAVID & LISA, 2001: SPACE ODYSSEY).  Film tickets are $8 General

“Creatures of the Night Series” at Faver-Dykes State Park – From 5 – 6 p.m., Faver-Dykes State Park hosts a Luna Moth Program as part of their “Creatures of the Night Series.”  The program starts with a half-mile informative hike through luna moth habitat.  Participants design their own luna moth mask to take home.  Meet at the campfire circle between sites 14 and 16 in the campground.  The program is included in admission ($5 per vehicle up to 8 people, $4 for single occupancy, or $2 per person on bicycle) to the park located at 1000 Faver-Dykes Road, St. Augustine.  904-794-0997 www.floridastateparks.org/faverdykes

Elizabeth Mowry Pastel Painting Workshop – The St. Augustine Art Association hosts internationally-acclaimed pastel artist Elizabeth Mowry for an intensive three-day studio workshop.  The workshop takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and will focus on creating evocative landscape compositions using natural landscape components.  Registration is $495 ($475/StAAA members) and includes lunch Friday and Saturday.  22 Marine St., St. Augustine. 904-824-2310 www.staaa.org

Photography Challenge Event – Photographers, from beginners to professionals, compete to take the best photo at three designated locations within Washington Oaks Gardens State Park.  Maps to the featured locations can be obtained from the Ranger Station or from volunteers in the main parking lot. Torchlight Tours at Fort Matanzas National Monument – Spanish re-enactors conduct spectacular nighttime firings of two six-pounder reproduction cannons.  Tours will depart the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center dock at 6, 6:45, 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will be available beginning January 13th only at the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center. Discover First America Program – Let Freedom Ring! –  This program is brought to the St. Augustine community on the eve of the opening of the 450th Commemoration signature exhibition titled Journey: 450 Years of the African-American Experience. Persons who witnessed and experienced the landmark events that occurred in St. Augustine during the 1960s present rememberances. Also, Florida Memorial College alumni recount their important role in the Civil Rights Movement. The evening concludes with a gospel choir performance.
