Saturday’s events will include the Romanza Procession at 2 o’clock. Vacationers and locals can join the Romanza Procession and come in period dress to celebrate the heritage of St. Augustine! Chad Light, our local representative from 16th century Spain, will lead the Romanza parade in his role as Pedro Menendez. The parade will feature dancers, re-enactors, and more, all marching to the beat of the jaguars’ drumline.
The festivale will have nearly 100 events and exhibits (many of them free). Performances, tours, Changing of the Guards, plus numerous activities will be happening daily in many locations throughout the city
Highlights of this year’s Romanza Festivale include a wide variety of historic and culinary tours each day, as well as the Romanza Procession, the Changing of the Guard, and the opening Dixieland Jazz Concert on Saturday May 7. There will even be an opportunity (on May 2 and 15) to learn a new game – petanque, pronounced “pay-tonk,” which is one of the world’s most popular games and a favorite in St. Augustine’s sister city of Avilés in Spain.
Romanza means romance, and this is the fifth year the Romanza Festivale will bring the talents of the arts community to the forefront to express their love affair with St. Augustine.
