Last Week to Tour El Galeon and Final Days of Award-Winning Journey Exhibit!! Lots to Do – It's Summer!

Monday – Sunday: July 14 – 20

El Galeón and Nao Victoria Tour –  LAST WEEK FOR EL GALEON!!!   Tour full-sized replicas of 16th and 17th century Spanish tall ships. Docked at the St. Augustine City Marina, El Galeón Andalucia and Nao Victoria are both open for daily tours. This is the last week that both ships will be here. El Galeon will depart after July 20. El Galeón is an exact replica of the famous galleons that played an important role in the creation and maintenance of the Spanish Empire.  Built in Spain, it is similar to the galleon that brought Pedro Menendez to Florida where he founded St. Augustine in 1565. The Nao Victoria is a replica of the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world commanded by Ferdinand Magellan in the 16th century. The ships are available for tours beginning at 10 a.m. daily. El Galeón admission is $15 for adult and $8 for youth. Nao Victoria admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Transformers: Age of Extinction: An IMAX 3D Experience – The Transformers 4 is playing at The IMAX Theater at World Golf Hall of Fame through July 10. This IMAX Theater features the largest 3-D screen in the Southeast.  Adults $13, Seniors/Students/Military $12, and Children 3-12 $10. Visit the website for show times. Final Days of The Award-Winning Journey: 450 Years of the African-American Experience– Recognized by the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation as an outstanding heritage education program, Journey: 450 Years of the African American Experience covers the long and storied history of African-Americans in St. Augustine. The story of African-Americans begins in St. Augustine with the first Africans both free and slave among founding colonists in 1565. The exhibition is designed for cultural and heritage visitors interested in the full history of America and its beginnings and comprises four themes: Genesis of the African-American Experience; Fortress of Freedom; Breaking the Chains; and Crossroads of Change.  Tickets are $5 for adults; $4 for seniors; $3 for youth 7-12; under 7 free. Schooner Freedom Privateers and Pirates Set Sail – Set sail on the Schooner Freedom and learn all about the privateer and pirates who sailed the waters of St. Augustine and the coast of Florida.  The schooner’s captain and crew are joined by an educator from the St. Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum to present tales of adventure beneath the Jolly Roger banner.  Plus, passengers get a chance to hoist the sails, see some artifacts and enjoy complimentary soda, water, beer and wine.  The schooner departs at 2:15 p.m. and returns at 4:15 p.m.  Tickets are $50 adults; $30 for kids 16 and under. Music by  the Sea Concert Series 2014– Every Wednesday night through September 24, live concerts take place from 7 – 9 p.m. at the St. Augustine Beach Pier Pavilion. 2014 Concerts in the Plaza – The 24th season of Concerts in the Plaza continues with a free live performance every Thursday night from 7 – 9 p.m. in St. Augustine’s historic Plaza de la Constitucion.  This week’s performers are Falling Bones featuring vintage rock, rhythm and blues.  Bring a chair or blanket for seating. 904-825-1004 www.plazaconcerts.com

British Open Week at the World Golf Hall of Fame – Watch the British Open on monitors throughout the Hall of Fame. Learn about Hall of Fame members who won the Open Championship and take part in special scavenger hunts.  Photo opportunities are available with the Claret Jug.  World Golf Village is open Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and noon – 6 p.m. Sunday.   Adult admission is $19.50, $18.50 for seniors and $10 for students. Farm to Glass Cocktail Workshops – Each Friday at 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m., the St. Augustine Distillery presents hands-on workshops that are one part instruction, one part inspiration and one part innovation.  Participants learn bartending basics and gain inspiration from fresh, in-season ingredients, Then, they are set loose with seasonal samples and a table filled with spirits

Swamp Radio Presents Summer in the Ancient City – Swamp Radio presents a live broadcast of Summer in the Ancient City featuring the groovy sounds of the WillowWacks, a quirky, not-so-serious side to St. Augustine’s history, the secret of of creating a Watermelon Mint popsicle, Irish storytelling with a North Florida twist, Ask the Swamp Lady…and much more! It all takes place at 7:30 p.m. each evening at the Lewis Auditorium in St. Augustine (a free, performing arts expo takes place one-hour before the curtain goes up.) Guided Beach Exploration Guana South Beach – Join GTM Research Reserve Docents from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. for a beach walk at the Guana South beach location on A1A, South Ponte Vedra Beach.  Learn about the animals that call the beach home as well as seashells and other interesting facts.  This is a “Beaches 101” experience that the entire family will enjoy.  There is a $3/per vehicle parking fee.  1768 Ponte Vedra Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach 904-823-4500 www.gtmnerrbeachexploration.eventbrite.com
 
Walk on the Wild Side at Anastasia State Park – Learn about coastal flora and fauna on this 2.5-mile guided walk through the dunes, along the shoreline and across the marsh on a wooden boardwalk. (Participants may choose to complete only one-half of the trek.) Photography Challenge Event – Photographers, from beginners to professionals, compete to take the best photo at three designated locations within Washington Oaks Gardens State Park.  Maps to the featured locations can be obtained from the Ranger Station or from volunteers in the main parking lot. American Idol Live!   – Get up close and personal with the Season 13 finalists of the hit TV show American Idol at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.  Performers include C.J. NOTE: St. Johns County residents with a valid ID are always admitted free of charge to the Oldest House, the Lightner Museum, the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, City Walks History Mystery Murder Evening Tour, Journey: 450 Years of the African-American Experience Exhibit, and the Hotel Ponce de Leon Legacy Tours at Flagler College. The daily tours and wine tastings at the San Sebastian Winery are free to everyone. Also, admission is free to everyone at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, St. Photios Chapel, the Pena-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum (donations are welcomed). Many other local attractions offer discounted admissions to St. Johns County residents with valid ID.
